Become a Whirlwind Cleaner Now

Keep a cleaning carry-all (available at dollar stores or hardware stores) or a simple plastic bucket pre-packed with cleaning supplies to take from room to room. Ensure you have the right products on hand for the cleaning jobs you face around your home. We suggest this selection:

Power Cream Degreaser for tough grease, sticky residue and burnt-on food.

Power Cream Lime & Grime to make easy work of limescale and soapscum buildup.

Bathroom Spray for shower doors, walls, shower cutrains, tape and tiles.

Thick Bleach for toilet bowls, tubs and sinks.

Multi-Surface Cleaner for glass, mirrors, counter tops, sealed wood furnishings and sealed granite.

Gel with Baking Soda for stovetops, sinks, faucets, chrome fixtures and stainless steel appliances.

Cream Cleanser for countertops, pots and pans, casserole dishes and BBQ grills.

Where to Start - Where to Finish

Start in the kitchen. Clean your laminate counter tops, around your cook-top rings, food-spattered backsplashes, the fridge door and the sink. Moisten a damp sponge. Do your cabinet doors, drawer pulls, light switches and the telephone next. Check the shelves and door slots in your fridge, too. Peek in the microwave. Is the lunch-time pizza welded to the roof? Here's a trick: Half fill a cup with water and add a squirt of Cream Cleanser. Place in the microwave and run on high for 60 seconds. Wipe clean with a damp sponge. Wipe down the kitchen table and chairs. Then clean the floors last with diluted Vim Floors.

Move on to the bathroom. Spray the shower walls and bath tub with Bathroom Cleaner. Leave it while you wipe down the counter and sink with Vim Gel with Baking Soda. Use the tooth brush in your carry-all to scour around the drain hole. A Q-Tip Cotton Swab dipped in Vim Gel will make quick work of grunge around the taps. Wipe all surfaces with clear water. Return to the shower and tub. Turn on the shower and watch the cleaner and the scum disappear down the drain. Apply Vim Thick Bleach to the toilet, let sit and flush. Voila.

And finally the rest of the house. While moving from room to room, keep a look out for finger marks on doors and door frames and for sticky door handles. Clean with All Purpose Spray. Is the picture on your TV or computer screen looking foggy? See it brighten before your eyes when you gently dust the surface using a Snuggle Fabric Softener sheet.

WASHINGTON/FRANKFURT, Aug 24 - General Motors Co[GM.UL] is considering a plan to raise funding to keep Opel asan alternative to selling the unit to Magna International<MGa.TO>, sources with knowledge of the deliberations said onMonday.

The development comes against a backdrop of escalatinglabor tensions and political stakes over GM's slow-movingeffort to sell control of Opel and its British affiliate,Vauxhall.

The Obama administration pledged on Monday to stay out ofGM's choice of a buyer for Opel, while union leaders in Germanyput more pressure on the U.S. automaker to make a decision.

At a board meeting on Friday, GM directors declined toendorse a sale of Opel to Magna, sending the automaker backinto negotiations this week with the German government.

While GM remains focused now on trying to clear remainingissues with the Magna deal, executives also are consideringother options, including raising more than $4 billion in a bidto keep Opel, sources said.

GM had no immediate comment.

Because GM is barred from using funding from the U.S.government to support its international operations, one of theoptions could include raising money by selling or mortgagingthe automaker's assets in China, one of the sources said.

Berlin and the German states that host Opel plants havemade clear they want Magna to get Opel and are set to provide4.5 billion euros ($6.4 billion) in state aid to make ithappen.

Germany has already provided 1.5 billion euros in bridgefinancing for Opel. As a result, German trustees overseeing amajority stake in Opel have to approve any deal after it clearsthe GM board.

With an election looming, German officials also have throwntheir support behind the Magna bid for Opel because of the viewthat it would be the best option for preserving jobs.

'THE FIRST WARNING SHOT'

Negotiations over Opel have dragged on for months,frustrating its 50,000 European employees.

On Monday, labor leaders for Opel's 25,000 workers inGermany protested the delay by rescinding an agreement toforego vacation pay, demanding some 70 million euros ($100.1million) in cash next week, sources familiar with the actiontold Reuters.

"This is the first warning shot," said one of the sources,who requested anonymity.

Separately, Opel labor leader Klaus Franz, speaking onGerman radio, threatened "spectacular measures" if GM did notmake up its mind soon.

"We have been calm so far, listened diligently and madecomments, but that is over now," Franz said.

GM had been expected to reach a decision on Friday onwhether to sell Opel to Magna, Berlin's favored bidder, or toBrussels-based investment firm RHJ International <RHJI.BR>.

Jul. 3, 2009 (China Knowledge) - Hong Kong stocks slid 83.39 points or 0.46% to end the morning session at 18,094.66 points, with mainboard turnover standing at HK$31.71 billion.

The Hang Seng China Enterprise Index, which tracks the overall performance of 43 Chinese mainland state-owned enterprises on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, slipped 65.04 points to 10,906.85 points.

Market heavyweight HSBC Holdings Plc<0005><HBC>, which accounts for the largest weighting for the Hang Seng Index, shrank 0.24% to HK$63.8.

BaWang Group<1338> surged 30.25% to HK$3.1 on its first trading day.

Gold stocks declined after gold futures prices in New York fell. Zhaojin Mining Industry Company Ltd<1818> slid 1.3% to HK$12.16. Lingbao Gold Company Ltd<3330> went down 1.07% and closed at HK$2.78. Sino Gold Mining Ltd<1862> slipped 4.16% to HK$29.95.

Zijin Mining Group Co Ltd<601899><2899> decreased 1.89% to HK$6.8. Fujian billionaire Chen Fashu sold a total of 147 million shares of the firm during the period from May 25 to Jul. 1.

Real estate stocks ended mixed. SOHO China Ltd<0410> fell 0.61% to HK$4.88. Sun Hung Kai Properties<0016> went down 0.89% and closed at HK$94.95. Cheung Kong (Holdings) Ltd<0001> slid 0.17% to HK$87.1. Henderson Land Development Co Ltd<0012> fell 0.23% to HK$43.5. Agile Property Holdings Ltd<3383> slid 1.26% to HK$10.96. Beijing Capital Land Ltd<2868> rose 4.53% to HK$3.69 after it announced that its sales revenue totaled RMB 5 billion in the first half of this year, accounting for 83% of annual goal.

Dec. 16, 2009 (China Knowledge) - More than 30 companies from the Greater China Region are expected to list on Nasdaq in 2010, said Yeeli Hua Zheng, Nasdaq OMX Group's chief representative in China, on Monday.

Zheng said that 30 Chinese firms went public on the Nasdaq this year and that more companies will seek listings there next year.

She added that the 30 firms are mainly involved in industries such as biotechnology, new energy, consumer products and information and technology.

So far, a total of 121 companies from the Greater China Region have listed on Nasdaq, and 100 of them are from mainland China.

Zheng said that Nasdaq OMX Group is in talks with Chinese regulators over a possible listing of the company on the international board of the Shanghai Stock Exchange.

Sep. 22, 2009 (China Knowledge) - Genzyme Corp, a U.S.-based biotechnology company, over the weekend held a ground-breaking ceremony for a research and development center in Zhongguancun Life Science Park, Beijing, sources reported.

The new 200,000-square foot R&D and manufacturing complex, which is expected to be operational in 2011, will cost US$100 million and employ 350 researchers.

The Beijing R&D center will include a production laboratory for cell therapy and will enable work on several key projects in the fields of transplantation, immunology, cancer and cardiovascular diseases.

Henri Termeer, president and CEO of Genzyme, said the firm is committed to long-term development in the Chinese market.

Genzyme is looking for potential acquisition opportunities and will provide its diversified technology platform and knowledge in China. Through existing ties with local enterprises the firm will contribute to the development of disease treatment and diagnosis across the country, said Termeer.

The firm plans to develop around 20 medical products for the Chinese market in the next ten years. It currently offers only three.

Genzyme's new facility in Beijing will be its second-largest R&D base outside the U.S.
